FCEM membership was reinforced: Poland (PSWF) became a full member, Algeria (SEVE) returning after numerous years of absence has become an affiliated member, Morocco (AFEM) has become and observer member, and Costa Rica (CMELA) has presented its candidature. A representative from Peru who participated will be working with Lidia Angeli to organize an association in her country.
FCEM’s worldwide celebration of FCEM Day for Women Entrepreneurs to be observed the third Friday of May each year and which was initiated on May 18, 2001, will be furthermore reinforced by special events in each member country and an intensified lobbying campaign to have the United Nations declare an International Day for Women Entrepreneurs.
In an effort to reinforce communication, information sharing, partnership and business opportunities among women entrepreneurs, a project for the creation of an FCEM Web Site Portal has been launched. The project envisions a secured worldwide networking system and the equipping of all FCEM national associations with appropriate technology and an Internet presence. Presentations were given by Kate Pavlov creator of the WCEI Australia web site and by Micheline Briclet creator of the CandGo portal.
The FCEM project in cooperation with the International Trade Center (agency of UNCTAD and the WTO) for identifying the needs of national associations for information and communication technology has been officially launched. The project aims to promote international trade through e-commerce and the Internet and is of great interest for countries in development and in transition.
FCEM will reinforce its assistance in the development of national associations of women entrepreneurs in non-member countries and to reinforcing mentoring programs to encourage young women to launch their own projects.
