Message from Hillary Rodham Clinton, First Lady of the United States
to the 47th FCEM World Congress, May 1999, Brussels, Belgium.
May 22, 1999
I am pleased to have this opportunity to send greetings to each of you attending the 47th World Congress of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs.
It is wonderful that you have joined together to provide an opportunity for women business owners and entrepreneurs to develop commercial relationships and to pursue opportunities in the global marketplace. In communities throughout the world, there are women who have the initiative and the desire to take responsibility and work hard. If they are to succeed, they must be given the tools of opportunity – access to capital, training and encouragement.
As you come together today, you recognize the importance of offering women the opportunity to learn from and support one another. The fortunes of women are inextricably tied to the fortunes of our communities. If women flourish, then the entire community flourishes. Your efforts celebrate the essential contributions women make to their family, profession, community and country.
Please accept my best wishes for an enjoyable and productive conference.
Hillary Rodham Clinton
